Rumor: Nintendo Direct happening in September

Multiple sources are coming forward, claiming that a Nintendo Direct is happening in September.

Switch Force was the first to hint at a date of September 12. That would be a Friday, which would be abnormal, but it’s also possible that it could be September 11 in the west due to time zone differences.

VGC is also reporting that a Nintendo Direct is planned for mid-September. However, it has not offered a specific date.

A September Nintendo Direct would not be much of a surprise. Presentations have almost always happened during this month and lead into the Tokyo Game Show.

Nintendo held a Direct at the very end of July, but was it was a Partner Showcase, it was dedicated almost entirely to third-parties. Another broadcast could highlight the company’s future titles – Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Splatoon Raiders, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, and Rhythm Heaven Groove do not currently have release dates.

Something else to keep an eye out for is Super Mario Bros. For the series’ 35th anniversary in September 2020, a special presentation aired with various announcements. We’ll have to see if something similar happens for the 40th anniversary next month.
