Rumor: New characters leaked for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Cinépolis, a Mexico-based international movie theater chain, may have revealed some new information about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, including previously-unannounced characters.

The film was officially announced yesterday. As part of that, a brief teaser trailer was shown during a Nintendo Direct. That was mostly all, aside from a few words shared by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri with Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Bowser, and Kamek confirmed. But now we may know about a couple of additional characters – we’ll be covering that below, so keep that in mind before proceeding.

Cinépolis posted about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Instagram. It includes the following message: “New threats, old rivalries, and a battle that reaches the stars. Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi join forces against Wario and Bowser Jr.”

Yoshi was expected given a tease at the end of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The inclusion of Bowser Jr. and Wario is noteworthy though, especially since they could be teaming up. Bowser Jr. did appear in the Super Mario Galaxy games, but Wario joining in would be a bit out of left field.

Now, we should make it clear that we can’t take Cinépolis’ blurb at face value just yet. At the moment we’re not sure where Cinépolis is getting its information from, though it would be somewhat strange for the movie theater chain to put this fake information in its social media post. For now we’re considering this only to be a rumor until we hear otherwise. We’ll let you know if we hear anything else about the situation.
