Another round of concept art has been spotted for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and one of the images even includes Daisy.

The art comes from Jed Diffenderfer, who worked as a story artist on the film. There are eight images in total showing different aspects and possibly cut elements. Daisy is a big one here as she’s shown in the final battle – plus there’s even a Toad riding a Blue Yoshi, which is straight out of Super Mario World.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie came out last year to much success. For Nintendo, this ended up impacting its bottom line in a positive way. President Shuntaro Furukawa touched on this during the Q&A portion of a financial briefing this week.

According to Furukawa, The Super Mario Bros. Movie contributed to the mobile and IP related business seeing a big increase year-on-year. He explained:

Megan Rose Ruiz and Travis Ruiz, two artists that worked on The Super Mario Bros. Movie, have revealed new concept art – plus sketches and other images – from their time working on the project.

Many of the images are for Toad, including one dedicated to designs. Megan said they were initially “asked to explore what different body types for the Toads might look like.” They added that “for the final film, I think there was only variation in color and outfit”.

Chris Pratt, the voice of Mario in the recent film, has indicated that news about The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 should be coming “soon.”

Pratt spoke with ET about the movie, including its success. He mentioned the ongoing writers’ strike which has put many productions on hold. However, when things have been finalized, “then it’ll be time to start talking about what’s next for that.”

Pratt shared the following:

Original (5/14): Based on the latest box office numbers for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it’s now the fourth-highest grossing animated film ever. It took over that achievement from Minions.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has earned $536 million domestically. In total, it’s collected $1.21 million.

Sebastian Maniscalco Mario movie

The Super Mario Bros. Movie ultimately cast Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario, but it turns out Sebastian Maniscalco also threw his hat into the ring in hopes of nabbing the role.

Maniscalco recently appeared on Live with Kelly and Mark, and one of the hosts asks how he didn’t end up playing Nintendo’s plumber. He revealed that he actually read for Mario, but was given the role of Spike instead. For what it’s worth, Maniscalco believes Pratt “did a great job.”

Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida is apparently a big fan of Mario, to the point where he actually went to see The Super Mario Bros. Movie recently.
