Nintendo says inspiration from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment could influence the future of Zelda

Nintendo Switch 2 doesn’t have its own proper Zelda game yet, but Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment could offer a glimpse of what’s to come.

Series producer Eiji Aonuma – and a few others – were speaking about Age of Imprisonment in an interview with 4Gamer this week. To close out the discussion, Aonuma shared a few general words. He noted (via machine translation) that “the inspiration we’ve gained from this collaboration with Koei Tecmo might be reflected in the Zelda games we create in the future.”

Aonuma said during the discussion:

“Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will be the first Zelda-related title on the Nintendo Switch 2. We actually wanted to be the ones to release the first one ourselves (laughs). However, the inspiration we’ve gained from this collaboration with Koei Tecmo might be reflected in the Zelda games we create in the future. While you’re playing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, please keep that in mind and look forward to our future Zelda titles.”

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is currently available on Nintendo Switch 2. The game just received a new update this week with a bunch of additional content – check out the patch notes here.
