Akiba's Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed

Earlier this week, Acquire announced plans to bring Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed to Switch. The game was also given a release date of May 20 in Japan.

Clouded Leopard Entertainment has now followed up for some news in Asia. Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed will be distributed on that same day as well, and English support is confirmed.

XSEED previously announced plans to publish Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed in North America. However, that was back in 2019, so it’s currently unknown if the company will be handling the Switch version as well. While it’s likely, even if it doesn’t happen, we at least know that an English version will be offered on Switch thanks to the upcoming Asian release.

Here’s the full announcement for Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed:

Clouded Leopard Entertainment Inc. (CEO: Yuen-Yuen Chen) is pleased to announce the Asian version release of Acquire Corp. (CEO: Takuma Endo)’s action-adventure title Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed (for PlayStation 4/ Nintendo Switch) on Thursday, May 20, 2021.

This title is a fully remastered version of Akiba’s Trip Plus released on PSP in 2012, optimized for current generation consoles. It is an action-adventure game in which a young man battles vampires known as Kageyashi in Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan.

• Ultra-Realistic Setting

The story takes place in Akihabara, a real-life district in Tokyo. Once an underground market for electronics, Akihabara—known colloquially as Akiba – has since become a mecca for Japanese pop culture, particularly anime, games, and pop idols. This title is a remake of Akiba’s Trip Plus, based on the original Akiba’s Trip released on PSP in 2011, optimized for current generation consoles. Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed therefore features the streets of Akihabara as they appeared in the early 2010s.

• Go Head-to-Head with the Kageyashi!

The game’s protagonist is attacked by vampires called Kageyashi, which are said to roam the streets of Akihabara at night. He is nearly killed, but a young Kageyashi girl saves his life. Following this incident, our hero resolves to face off against the bloodsuckers once and for all.

• Sexy Battle Strategy

The battle against the Kageyashi is nonstop, heart-pounding action. Unfortunately, vampires have regenerative abilities, meaning that they cannot be defeated by physical blows alone. In order to expose them to sunlight – their only weakness – the player must tear off the Kageyashi’s clothing at just the right time, reducing them to ashes!

• Vampires, Action & Akihabara – Remastered!

In 2020, the Akiba’s Trip series achieved a total of 800,000 units sold worldwide, and this year, Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed will commemorate the series’ 10th anniversary. The nitty-gritty details of Akihabara have been newly rendered in HD, so even those who played the game back in the glory days of PSP can relive the excitement! In addition, the badge system (not to be confused with trophies) offers players the unique challenge to obtain exclusive badge items throughout the game.

• First Edition Package Version Includes Visual Fan Book, OST & More!

The first edition of the packaged Asian version of Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed comes with an art book (in traditional Chinese and Korean) that includes illustrations by 16 artists who “love Akihabara!” and a deluxe, 2-disc original soundtrack, with 46 songs and over 100 minutes of music. Also included in the package version is a reprint (in Japanese) of the Akiba’s Trip Official Complete Guide, published at the time of the release of the original Akiba’s Trip title.
