Balatro sales surpass two million, gameplay update in 2025, more [update: 3.5 million]
August 7: We’ve got the latest on the performance of Balatro, with sales surpassing two million and a gameplay update is planned for 2025.
Publisher Playstack and developer LocalThunk are planning a “Three-of-a-Kind of Surprises” campaign. The first announcement, as already stated, is that there’ll be a major update next year. This will add “new ideas and strategies to the game” at no extra cost.
Two more announcements will be made in the future, but it’s unclear when exactly. Playstack says its campaign is planned for August / September.
LocalThunk had this to say about the success of its game: “I would never have thought that Balatro would be played by over two million people when I started working on it almost three years ago. I’m so grateful to all the players for giving it a chance and I’m excited to show everyone the next chapter for my game.”
Playstack and LocalThunk previously confirmed other sales milestones. Shortly after launch, the game hit 500,000 copies sold before going on to sell over one million units.
Balatro is currently available on Switch worldwide via the eShop. A physical release is coming soon, and we have the details about that here.
December 11: We have an update on the game’s sales, and that number has increased to 3.5 million. That’s based on all platforms combined worldwide.
