Bethesda again says it has talked about Rage 2 for Switch, but unsure if it would work on the system

Earlier this month, we heard that Bethesda is at least considering the possibility of putting Rage 2 on Switch. The company’s Pete Hines has commented on the situation further in a new interview.

Hines indicated that it could be difficult to bring Rage 2 to Switch since the game is built with Avalanche Studios’ engine. Whether or not it “could ever work on the Switch” is still unknown.

Hines’ full words:

“We’ve talked about it, but it’s a completely different engine and tech. The nice thing about Doom, Wolf, and Doom Eternal is it all uses id Tech, Rage 2 uses Avalanche‘s engine, so it’s a different beast in terms of a seamless open world that you can play like that. We’ve talked about it some. Still uncertain whether that could ever work on the Switch.”

On the topic of Switch support in general, Hines noted that Bethesda felt it could support the console after Nintendo spoke with them about it and the specs were shown. That’s in contrast to past Nintendo platforms, which wouldn’t have been a good fit from a technological standpoint and for other reasons. As long as Bethesda can maintain “sort of the same kind of experience,” on a different platform, the company is open to bringing games over.

“We want as many people to be able to play our games as possible. A lot of time and a lot of effort go into making these games. So if bringing it to another platform allows more people to play it, great. So far the reception has been good, people really like the games, so we’re gonna keep doing it.”
