Alas, that kind of offer is bound to attract some very over-determined adventurers…

It’s a known fact that the the DS in Nintendo DS stands for “Developer’s System” and “Dual Screen.” But what does the “i” in DSi stand for?

According to a Nintendo representative, the “i” has two meanings. First, it is symbolic for “I” – As in, the DSi is your own, personal system. The two cameras on the handheld also allows the DSi to have its own “eye” on things. Nintendo also says that they “hope that the Nintendo DSi becomes more than a game system and more of a personal tool to enrich our daily lives.”

“There were a lot of requests among gamers, of course, and from in house as well, for two slots. We also thought that would be good, and, even though we were aware of the drawback of increased size, we decided to proceed with two slots. But when you and your team made an actual model and I held it in my hands, all I could think was, ‘It’s so big!’…When you try to add two slots, it can’t be helped [the size]. So you [Kuwahara] gave up on that, and decided to make it smaller.” – Iwata

“I think lots of improvements have been made with the Nintendo DSi, but one thing that really made me happy, even though it’s subtle and doesn’t stand out, is that the sound is much louder and the sound quality is better.” – Iwata

“…when you compare the DSi with the DS Lite, the way it looks hasn’t changed all that drastically. It’s almost like we tried not to change it. But the speakers were an area where we could make an obvious change and keep the unit looking neat. It would look different from its predecessors and cut down on confusion in stores. I’m not usually very insistent, but when it came to this, I pushed pretty strongly.” – Yui Ehara, DSi shell designer

“Yeah, I want each person’s My DS to be something they carry around with them at all times. They can take an interest in what their friends have done with their units, and share recommendations.” – Iwata

Just wondering, how many of you guys find your original DS or DS Lite with you most of the time?

Doesn’t have a whole lot in terms of actual in-game footage, but at least it’s something! Hopefully we’ll get a trailer from Rockstar soon.

“WiiWare is not magic, and digital is not perfect. I think that there’s more that Nintendo can do to support (WiiWare games). This year, Nintendo will increase resources for development and promotion.” – Tom Prata, gamemaker’s senior director of project development

Prata had a few other things to say as well – Nintendo is “working to increase the connection rate” for the Wii, reiterated that a Wii storage solution is on the way, confirmed that DSiWare will launch when the DSi releases, and stated that Nintendo wishes to better promote WiiWare titles. Nintendo plans on, for instance, partnering with GameTrailers for an upcoming contest in which gamers can submit videos of World of Goo gameplay.
