REDMOND, Wash.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Kirby™, the loveable, powerful, spherical pink Nintendo character, is making a comeback in a big way. Today thousands of pink, lighter-than-air mini-Kirby clouds took flight in the skies above four U.S. cities with neighborhoods that share the Kirby name. This celestial festival celebrates the Sept. 22 launch of Kirby’s game for Nintendo DS™, Kirby Super Star™ Ultra.

“We brought Kirby back in way that helped our ‘super tuff pink puff’ literally take off,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “To date, more than 20 million Kirby games have sold worldwide, making Kirby one of our most popular characters. Kirby Super Star Ultra is a game that will please both veteran and new gamers alike.”

Residents of Kirby-named neighborhoods across the country might have noticed legions of Kirby characters floating through their skies today. These Flogos, as they are called, are creations made from environmentally friendly soapy bubbles and lighter-than-air gas. Kirby images floated over:

* Norwood Park next to Kirby Middle School in Birmingham, Ala.
* The historic Kirby’s Mill in Medford, N.J.
* The Kirby Gate shopping center in Memphis, Tenn.
* Kirby Park in Kingston, Penn.

“We gave our one-of-a-kind creations a special look for this special Nintendo character by adding coloring to our bubble mixture for the first time ever,” said Greg Stanhope, Director of Sales for Flogos. “Kirby deserved a uniquely creative event.”

Nintendo was hyping up another hosted event just a few days ago. There was a whole barrage of speculation, but yes: Blowing bubbles was the main attraction at Nintendo’s event. As was partially expected, Nintendo promoted Kirby Super Star Ultra for the Nintendo DS. However, a bunch of Kirby bubbles were blown and sent up in the sky. So no – There was no Kirby Wii announcement or any Kirby revelation at all, but hey…The Kirby bubbles are kind of nice.

I wanted to share this with everyone, since I think it’s a very original and selfless act. The folks over at WiiNintendo are trying to compile tons of videos of fighting Ike in SSBB and winning. Also, they currently have a donations box running and all money that is donated will be given to the American Red Cross to help victims of Hurricane Ike.

“I wanted to let you know about a project entitled ‘Ike’ll Get No Sympathy From Us’ that WiiNintendo is starting. One of our writers, Charmy, came up with an idea to have the gaming community help Hurricane Ike victims. What we’re asking is for people to record videos of themselves fighting the character Ike in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and winning. We’re going to post these videos up on WiiNintendo in an effort to show the many people that are ‘fighting Ike.’ We’re eventually going to make a big compilation video of the videos that were sent in.”

“In terms of the press conference, its content and announcements are still being finalized so we are not announcing anything at this time.” – Nintendo statement

So, all doubts about the conference’s existence can finally be put to rest. I just hope that Nintendo will be able to match the quality of surprises and excitement as they did last year – Monster Hunter 3 on Wii, DS demos, Fire Emblem DS, and WiiWare’s launch date were all spectacular announcements.

Okay, let’s face it. E3 pretty much stunk for Nintendo fans. As exciting as Animal Crossing: City Folk and GTA: China Town Wars are, they were not huge titles that gamers were expecting. No Punch-Out. No Kid Icarus. No Mario or Zelda. Not even footage of Pikmin. Nintendo may redeem themselves for their E3 event, however, with their rumored conference this fall. However, it might not be a rumor much longer. Another Japanese website is claiming that the event is indeed real and will be hosted October 2nd. Better yet, as is roughly translated, “new products” will be present. So, will Kid Icarus finally be shown? Or anything else that will keep the hardcore satisfied? We’ll know for sure this October, by the look of things are as of now.

What has become commonplace with the Madden franchise will now carry over to James Bond: video game releases every year. Activision Blizzard has stated that there will be a new James Bond game each year, with or without a movie. Hopefully Activision will find a way to keep the James Bond formula fresh annually so that each new release feels as though it was released with a purpose.

Even with the recent announcements of Shining Force Feather and Phantasy Star Zero for the DS, SEGA is not done with RPG-related announcements. Other than a few background pieces and a picture of some sort of dragon, we are left wondering what exactly the game is all about. SEGA has revealed that Rieko Odama will be doing the producing while Kazuya Ninou is handling the directing. More news about the game should be revealed on the 26th, as the official website indicates.
