SEGA is proud to announce that the next edition of our Vintage Collection series is headed here in late 2011 and early 2012, to PlayStation Network and Nintendo Wii Virtual Console! This collection features favorites from the Wonder Boy series as well as some other gems from that era, including one of the first titles produced by legendary designer Yu Suzuki.

The biggest news of this bundle is that we are releasing a fully localized version of Wonder Boy in Monster World IV, which has never had a previous release in the West – it has previously appeared only in Japan.

Here’s everything that’s on the way:

Xbox 360 – 297K (+60%) – Top Selling Console
PlayStation 3 – ~204.3K (+13%)
Nintendo 3DS – 194K
Wii – 172K (-38%)

Tecmo Koei made a surprising announcement at Nintendo’s January 3DS conference that Dead or Alive: Dimensions would feature a stage from Other M. Yosuke Hayashi quickly clarified that Samus isn’t a playable character in the game, though he noted that the Metroid star does make an appearance as the battle takes place in the level.

Hayashi never truly explained why Samus isn’t playable in the title – until now. Speaking to IGN, Team Ninja’s boss said the team decided to include the Other M stage to celebrate the release of the first Dead or Alive game on a Nintendo platform, but wanted to make sure that the roster was comprised strictly of characters known to the series. As a result, it was not possible to add in any sort of new or guest character.

“Obviously this is the first DOA for a Nintendo platform. We wanted to commemorate this occasion with something so we decided to feature a stage crossover with Other M. The footage we released for this was a bit confusing because it didn’t allow us to show our true intentions behind having this stage in there. One thing about Samus as a playable character — for DOAD our aim was to have a compilation of DOA characters so we purposely left out any new or guest characters in the game. Samus is a lone bounty hunter and protector of the galaxy so we thought it would be better to let her focus on her job rather than kicking everyone’s butt in DOAD.”

In Dengeki Nintendo’s April issue, the magazine teased an announcement regarding a new Pokemon title. Now CoroCoro magazine is also promising a game reveal. The thing is that CoroCoro tends to feature Pokemon news first, so there’s a chance that Dengeki will be forced to delay their announcement until next month. Either way, we’ll find out in a few days if the magazine plans on revealing something, as the next issue is expected to hit store shelves soon.
