Update: Game Night is now over!

A few site notes

Posted on 13 years ago by (@NE_Brian) in Site updates | 0 comments

Just a few points to share with you folks…

1) Game Night will indeed be taking place tonight (Friday) at 8 PM EDT. IRC chat will go up around that time.

2) Twitter – I ended up combining automatic site posts from NE/GE on Twitter a few days ago, but I wasn’t too happy with the results. So I’ve started a separate account for Gaming Everything. It took a few days of testing to ensure that everything was functional, though it’s now open for business – you can follow us here. Our Nintendo Everything Twitter can be accessed here.

3) Pop-ups – I’ve noticed that a few pop-ups have been appearing on the site. Based on what I’ve seen, they’re not occurring regularly, but it’s still something I’m looking into removing. Pop-ups are one form of advertising I will never push onto NE or GE.

That’s all for now!

If all goes well, I should be around to host Game Night this week. I’m not entirely sure if anything will change over the next 24 hours though, so consider it to be scheduled tentatively. I’ll post an update tomorrow once everything is set. I do hope that you guys free up some time for 8 PM EDT since I have a feeling I’ll be here as planned.

Update: Forgot to mention! Obviously I’ll continue to add games in the future, so if you think the database is a bit light right now, don’t worry about it! And please let me know if you encounter any glaring issues/errors. My interest in your feedback is one of the reasons I’m revealing this feature a bit earlier than I planned.

I’m not going to lie: Sometimes it can be very difficult managing Nintendo/Gaming Everything. There are some things I wish I could do more of – such as providing more original content and features – but there just isn’t enough time in the day to accomplish everything I have in mind. From the moment I wake up to the moment I hit the sack, I’m responsible for finding news for two sites, managing the forum, introducing new functionality (and coding things myself despite my limited knowledge). Oh, and did I mention that this isn’t my day job?

Before I bore you further, I should probably move on to the topic at hand. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a new feature for the site: Game Pages. This is something that I’ve wanted to add to NE for years to be honest. Ironically, since I didn’t think it could be done with the system we use on both of the sites currently, I initially started Gaming Everything off with a custom CMS rather than WordPress. But I recently found a fairly simple solution that could realize my idea. Right now this functionality is just for Nintendo Everything, though I plan to add it to our sister site once everything is in place.

When you visit the “Game” page (click here or click the title on the header above), you’ll first come across images of four Nintendo consoles. Once you choose the system you’re interested in, you’ll be brought to a listing of titles for that platform. And from there, you can view information about a game, posts on the main site related to the game, rate the game, view screenshots, and post comments about the game.

I sort of hinted that these pages aren’t finished. Well, that’s true. I still have additional functionality planned. For example, I’m hoping to provide more sorting options for the tables and add videos/trailers in as well. Whether or not I’ll be able to code this… uh, we’ll see! I’m also planning a few aesthetic enhancements. So keep checking back on the “Game” page(s) for updates.

I don’t think I’ll be adding in every game to the database (at least not yet) nor will I add in “old” games since that would probably be way too much work. Simply put, I hope this is a feature that you guys will find useful. At least it should be easy for you all to keep track of your favorite titles!

I’d tease you about more “stuff” I have in the pipeline, but I probably shouldn’t go there… not yet at least. For now, enjoy the Game Pages!

I just realized it’s Friday! Normally that would mean Game Night would be taking place in about twenty hours… but that won’t be the case today. I have a personal matter to attend to later this evening so I won’t be able to host Game Night.

Things should be back to normal next week. Thanks for your understanding!

Game Night (7/22)

Update: Game Night is now over!

Please be aware that Game Night will be taking place tonight at 8 PM EDT. That’s 5 PM PDT for all of you pacific coast visitors! Last week’s event was a blast and I’m sure today will be equally as enjoyable. Hit up the IRC (it’ll be on the main site) in about 2.5 hours to participate!

Game Night will be taking place for a second week in a row. Shock and awe!

I was extremely pleased with the turnout last week, so hopefully everyone will be joining us once again for some online gaming entertainment. Last time we played a bit of GoldenEye before heading on over to the race tracks in Mario Kart Wii. We’ll most likely follow the same agenda tomorrow (I just realized that it’s Thursday now.)

Game Night is once again scheduled for Friday at 8 PM EDT. Join us if you have some spare time!

Update: Game Night is now over!

Join us in an hour for this week’s Game Night. I’ll be placing an IRC chat application in this post right around 8 PM EDT. Remember, registration isn’t required. Just hop into the IRC with a nickname of your choice and you’ll be ready to go!

It’s going to be the first Game Night in months! Are you excited? I hope so!

Reminder: Game Night will be taking place later tonight. Please join us!

It’s been a longgggg time since we’ve had a Game Night on the site. I’ve been thinking about it quite a bit recently, in part because a few of you have brought it up. So, I’m officially bringing back Game Nights with the “revival” planned for Friday.

Austin’s Wii is broken, though he told me that he could try hopping over to a friend’s house to join us and he’ll most likely be a part of the IRC regardless. I haven’t really considered any format yet, so we’ll decide on which game(s) we’ll play in the chat.

If you’d like to take part, simply visit the site this Friday at 8 PM EDT. I’ll then post up an IRC page around that time. To join, you’ll just need to enter a nickname of your choice (no registration required).

I have no idea if we’ll be able to get back on a smooth schedule with these events, but I have to say that it’d be great if we can host them more frequently. The Game Nights I’ve been a part of have been a blast. Hopefully those of you who have participated feel the same way!
