3DS

StreetPass Quest 2 isn’t the only new feature Nintendo is considering for the 3DS Mii Plaza. Satoru Iwata is aware that there isn’t much left for most users to experience, so they’ll be looking to update the software by the end of the year to add new functionality.

Iwata added that there are several games in development that will incorporate Miis that 3DS owners have created on their systems. Nintendo will introduce this software starting this year and into 2012.

On Thursday, Nintendo revealed that 3DS owners who connect their system to the eShop by11:59 p.m EDT on Aug. 11 will be eligible to receive ten free NES games and ten free GBA games. So far, they’ve only confirmed that Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ and Mario vs. Donkey Kong will be available as part of the GBA downloads.

Has Nintendo of America outed a couple of additional titles? Here’s an email sent out by a customer service representative:

I have a feeling that the Super Mario Bros. 3 listing is just an error since that was probably mixed up with Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3. However, I’m not quite sure where that Kirby inclusion comes from. It’s also strange to see that Mario vs. Donkey Kong isn’t listed…

Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono has once again said that he is open to bringing Street Fighter x Tekken to 3DS. Capcom is also thinking about porting Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition to the portable.

Regarding Arcade Edition, Ono said:

“It’s possible. For the 3DS, I wanted to do an [Super Street Fighter IV:] Arcade Edition version, but I haven’t had a chance to do that because of all the other things I’m up to. At the company, we’re debating should we go for an AE port on 3DS? Should we skip that and go straight to Street Fighter x Tekken? There are a lot of things up in the air, so I can’t say for sure what our next 3DS project will be.”

Ono elaborated on what will move the release of Arcade Edition forward on 3DS…

“This is driven by my personal policy and the team’s policy is once you put out a product you also have to follow up, take care of your audience, and make sure their needs are being met. When we talked at the panel we wanted to get feedback from users on rebalancing and tweaking they would like to see in Arcade Edition.

“It would be the same for 3DS, we released Super and we want to make sure people are being taken care of. That’s basically my thought process behind how we take care of fans. We just don’t want to drop a game of them and run away. We’d like to keep the community going, communicate with them, and listen to their requests.”

Based on Ono’s remarks, it sounds like we’ll be seeing more fighting action on the 3DS from Capcom in the future. It’s only a matter of which game they’ll make next for the handheld.
