At Square Enix’s first quarter earnings meeting, CEO Yoichi Wada addressed a number of Dragon Quest IX subjects, including the game’s release date in other territories and some unfavorable reviews.

Perhaps most importantly, Wada touched upon the game’s availability outside of Japan. Square Enix is currently considering which countries/territories Dragon Quest IX will launch in. For now, however, there are no plans to bring the title to other areas until after April 2010.

Also, Wada still believes that Dragon Quest IX will top 5 million units sold. If this does indeed happen, the game will be the best-selling DQ title ever. One important factor that is contributing towards financial success is the game’s longevity. Because it has so much to offer, Dragon Quest IX is being sold back at only 1/2 to 1/3 the typical rate.

Another issue discussed at the briefing was related to some disappointing reviews that Dragon Quest IX has received. You may have noticed that a few members over at amazon.co.jp have essentially been trouncing the title. Although, Wada doesn’t seem to be bothered by the feedback. “It’s the internet. This is to be expected,” he said. “I’m telling the creators to ignore it as well. In my experience, there’s no relation [how online user reviews impact sales].”
