FACEBOOK CONNECT PHOTO INTEGRATION WITH NINTENDO DSI LAUNCHES TODAY

Free New Integration Lets Users Upload Photos to Their Facebook Profiles

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 3, 2009 – Starting today, Nintendo DSi™ owners have even more ways to share their experiences with friends and family. Using an Internet-connected Nintendo DSi system and the Nintendo DSi Camera application, Facebook members can take pictures with either of the system’s two cameras and upload their photos directly to their Facebook profile. This function will be available after 5 p.m. Pacific with a free downloadable system update.

While reviewing pictures they’ve stored in the Nintendo DSi Camera album, which includes photos taken by users and manipulated using the built-in interactive lenses, users can simply tap the Facebook icon on the system’s touch screen to instantly transmit photos to the user’s Facebook profile. The user’s system must be configured to a wireless broadband Internet connection for the transmission of photos.

The onset of August means summer is winding down, but the downloadable action at the Wii™ Shop Channel and Nintendo DSi Shop™ just keeps on heating up. Two new WiiWare™ offerings deliver futuristic robot foes and sultry poker opponents, respectively. On the Virtual Console™, there’s great news for football fans as the arcade classic TECMO BOWL™ makes its way to the Wii system. And on Nintendo DSiWare™, you’ll find a fresh addition to the eye-pleasing, mind-bending Art Style™ game series.

Nintendo is continuing to take action in the piracy scene. Their latest step towards prevention involves a DSi firmware update. Homebrew users in Europe and Japan might be better off holding back on upgrading, as the new firmware will not allow flash cards to be used. Members over at GBAtemp are reporting that those with the latest firmware will be unable to load the AK2I, iPlayer, EZVi, and perhaps even more such as the M3Ri. It should be noted that Nintendo has previously taken similar measures with the DSi in an effort to end piracy, but it didn’t take much time before alternatives were discovered. For the moment though, it looks as though Nintendo has stumped homebrew developers.

During the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2010, the Japanese economy continued to face uncertain prospects for recovery. Corporate business performance and the employment outlook in Japan worsened, and weak personal consumption persisted, due to the global economic recession that has grown more acute since last year.
