Pirates and Pitfalls Send Masterful Mixed Messages

The new Nintendo DSi™ system has been on store shelves for just a week now. Today Activision’s Mixed Messages™ becomes the first third-party downloadable game for the new system. Mixed Messages is a game of electronic telephone that can accommodate a whopping 21 players. On the WiiWare™ side, fans will find a game based on the popular Pop-Up Pirate™ toy that might have players sticking virtual swords into their Mii™ characters. And classic character Pitfall Harry Jr. makes his debut on the Virtual Console.

Nintendo adds new titles to the Nintendo DSi Shop and the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Mondays. Users with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ or Nintendo DSi Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel. Nintendo DSi Points can be purchased in the Nintendo DSi Shop. A Nintendo Points Card™ can be purchased at retail locations. All Nintendo Points from one Nintendo Points Card must be redeemed in either the Wii Shop Channel or the Nintendo DSi Shop. They are not transferable and cannot be divided between the two systems. This week’s new games are:

Rock Band 2 (Wii) – 92%
Rhythm Paradise (DS) – 82%
Disgaea DS (DS) – 88%
Lux-Pain (DS) – 76%
Valkyrie Profile Covenant of the Plume (DS) – 85%
Rhapsody: A Music Adventure (DS) – 81%
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time (Wii/DS) – 75%
Little King’s Story (Wii) – 92%
MySims Party (DS) – 61%
EA Sports Football Academy (DS) – 50%
Suikoden Tierkreis (DS) – 81%
Ultimate Band (Wii) – 59%

Thanks to Jake for the news tip.

“We’ve been asked about that quite a bit and it seems like a popular topic. At this point, I have not heard any plans about converting Game Boy games and putting them on the DSi.” – David Young, Associate Public Relations Manager at Nintendo

Nintendo may be unwilling to discuss bringing Game Boy games to the DSi right now, but it seems like something that is inevitable to happen. Adding such titles to the DSi Shop would certainly be a smart business move for Nintendo and fans would be more than appreciative with the retro titles as well.

This is the last bit of news, coming once again from Reggie…

“And you know what, we’ve said, the teams are in development. Those big first-party Nintendo fan games are coming. Here’s what I would say to the fans. From our perspective, there will be the Zelda games. We highlighted one today. There will be the Mario games. [Donkey Kong mentioned] Those are all great franchises. [Kid Icarus mentioned] We’d love to bring them all to life. That’s all a sense of priorities. [On Mario for WiiWare] When we’re going to work on a Mario title, we’re going to bring it to Wii, or DS…The point is, we want truly, truly innovative content to be first launched on WiiWare and that’s awfully tough to do with a Mario title.”
