According to Rockstar Games UK’s general manager Neil Stephen, the DSi could end up benefiting Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the DS.

“The launch of a new piece of hardware into the DS family will garner a new level of buzz and get some more hype going for the system. I think anyone releasing high profile titles on the DS will definitely benefit from that. We also think there is the potential to attract lots of new owners into the market, particularly from our fans who may have played our GTA titles on the PSP.”

Chinatown Wars will be releasing on March 17 and the DSi will launch on April 5 in North America. Since those dates are rather close, I’m sure that at least a few gamers would want to pick up the software alongside the DSi.

Nintendo announces a new online series of “Iwata Asks” sessions covering a topic that is sure to be hot for the video game industry in 2009: Nintendo DSi. The first installment of the Nintendo DSi series runs today and features a discussion with the hardware development team. Stay tuned for additional volumes, which are scheduled to be posted in the coming weeks. They aim to shed some light on the creative forces behind Nintendo’s new hand-held system. To read the “Iwata Asks” transcripts, please visit www.nintendodsi.com.

The Nintendo DSi system will be available in the U.S. on April 5, 2009. The new hand-held system will provide customized gaming experiences through built-in features, including dual cameras, an interactive voice recorder and music player, Nintendo DSiWare downloadable content via Nintendo DSi Shop and more. Nintendo DSi also demonstrates Nintendo’s commitment to transforming the way people play video games.
