“…There are a lot of technical and design challenges and maybe it’s not worth it. For the DS the game would have to be completely re-created from the ground up, and I won’t do that (I would rather be working on my next game), and I don’t know anyone I would trust to do a high-quality job on that. So it is probably not going to happen…”

I find this news to be unfortunate, but hey – At least there is one Braid game in existence. Better than nothing, right?

With the announcement of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars back at E3, there was a known certainty that when more details would come to light, there would be an outpour of concerns garnered from families and the media in general. Yesterday, it was revealed that Chinatown Wars will feature drug-dealing on the DS. With that news, complaints about the mini-game are beginning to start. Darren Gold of charity Drugsline, for instance, has commented that “Anything using drug-dealing as entertainment is sending out the wrong message.”

Take some time to visit the lovable residents of the sleepy town of South Arc

September 24, 2008

Normally a safe and quiet town, South Arc has experienced an increasing number of attacks by the monsters that have recently infested the nearby forests. Frightened to leave their homes, the villagers requested help from the King. Coincidentally, similar reports have been popping up throughout the entire kingdom, leaving the King with few solutions for South Arc. With no clear answer to their problem the citizens of South Arc go about their daily lives as best they can, until one day hope comes in the form of a young orphan…

You are that orphan, and the time has come for you to get a job – this town will support you no longer! You’re forced to explore the vast world for a calling, some sign, maybe even a hint at what you should do for a living. Well, wouldn’t you know it! You get a calling… from a shovel… literally. When you stumble upon a talking shovel you suddenly find yourself with more than you bargained for. Your new responsibility is to dig a nearby dungeon, lure the town’s monsters inside and vanquish them. Can you tolerate the overly verbose shovel, and conquer South Arc’s monster population, while convincing the mayor that a dungeon should never be used as a tourist attraction?

Digital creative agency Collective today launches an innovative “game-training” widget for the upcoming SEGA title Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood™.

The widget release, distributed by SEGA through a title-specific webpage, will prepare users for the global launch of the new game on Nintendo DS, which is scheduled to appear later in September. The widget incorporates a series of Flash games to help familiarise users with the environments, game play, characters and other elements of Sonic’s first ever Role Play Game (RPG).

SEGA will deploy its own seeding team to enhance the viral effect of the widget using the Clearspring Technologies’ distribution platform for the launch. In Europe, initially the UK, Germany and France are the primary market targets. Social networking sites such as Bebo, Piczo and the French-focussed Skyrock will be primary sites for the seeding campaign. The game widget will also be seeded through SEGA sites in the US and Australia.
