The official Japanese Twitter account shared more information today about Splatoon’s upcoming matchmaking options.

The game gathers four pairs of tagged people with similar ranks. The 2-person groups are then randomly distributed to make two teams of four.

It may be a tad difficult to understand, but these images from the Twitter account should make things a tiny bit clearer:

Nintendo is adding a whole bunch of content to Splatoon next week. Players can look forward to a level map increase, plus new matchmaking options, gear, and weapon types.

In its announcement today, Nintendo teased a sushi-chef costume as one of the upcoming outfits. But perhaps we already know what it will look like.

Does the image above look familiar? We actually posted it a few weeks back. That’s the winning entry for Famitsu’s recent contest, and what’s pictured above was the winning entry created by a fan. It was previously stated that this sushi-chef costume would be added to Splatoon in August, so there’s a very good chance we’ll be seeing it in-game next week.

Thanks to Matt for the tip.

Nintendo’s website contains an additional tidbit about Splatoon’s August update.

In Private Battle, two to eight friends will be able to battle together in customizable matches. Nintendo’s page also says that it “allows players to hold small-scale custom tournaments using up to 8 Wii U consoles and games on a single Internet connection.”

Good stuff, Nintendo! Very good stuff.

Nintendo of Europe uploaded a new trailer for Super Mario Maker today. It starts off with a trip down memory lane, and then gets into some action from the upcoming Wii U title. Watch the video below.

Legend of Kay Anniversary will be available on Wii U both physically and digitally. If you’re going for the latter option, you may be interested to hear that the game is a 3.4 GB download. That size is for Europe, but it should be very similar in North America.
