Wii U

Satoru Iwata outlined how the Wii U’s account system will work during today’s Japanese Nintendo Direct.

One of the first things you’ll do on the console is make a user account. Up to twelve users with the own Miis can be registered per system.

Once created, you can tie-in game settings, save data, browser bookmarks, and play history to your account.

To get involved with features such as video chat, you’ll need a Nintendo Network ID. This is made up of a username, password, email, date of birth info, and gender. Downloadable purchases made by one Nintendo Network user can be played by other users on the same console.

For those wondering what Satoru Iwata was saying…

– WaraWara Plaza is the name of the square
– On Miiverse, there are game icons with players around each, who are talking about the game
– Line-up of icons on the GamePad; can switch between this and Miiverse
– You find out what other players are playing at powerup
– Channel-like UI

This will begin in just under 15 minutes. The presentation will last 35 minutes, and it will be followed by additional content for roughly 18 minutes.

Scooby Doo characters aren’t really in Scribblenauts Unlimited. Neither are Mortal Kombat or Batman characters. But by using the game’s object creator, you can bring them all to the Wii U (and PC) version.

Screenshots of the object creator-made Warner Bros. characters can be found above.

Nintendo of Japan will be broadcasting a special Nintendo Direct presentation tomorrow at 8 PM JST / 6 AM ET / 3 AM PT (that’s a bit less than 11 hours from now). It sure is short notice, but it looks like we’ll finally be getting some information on the Wii U’s operating system and Miiverse. Considering that some news outlets have already got their hands on the console, this news is long overdue.

As usual the presentation will be streaming online and we’ll embed the stream before it goes live.

Before putting your brand new Wii U to the test on November 18, you’ll need to download an update. Without it, you won’t be able to access some of the console’s most important features. Once applied, the update will add Miiverse, Wii U Chat, Nintendo TVii, and the eShop to your console.

So it seems that the Wii U boxart may be slightly different in Europe compared to North America. There’s much more blue on the boxart – mainly the spine and back.

Another tidbit coming out of Ubisoft’s financial call today concerns Wii U stock. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot suggested that the majority will be heading to the US, with other countries fighting over what’s left over.

He said:

“The US seems to be having more machines than the other countries, but that’s the only thing I can say.”

We’ve already been hearing about limited Wii U stock in the UK. I imagine it’ll be limited in other territories as well. I imagine things will even be tight in the US as well.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has more than a positive outlook on Wii U.

While speaking about the new piece of hardware during an investor’s call, Guillemot said Ubisoft was “more and more positive on the launch of the Wii U”. The comments partially stem from strong pre-order demand for the system, which retailers haven’t been able to meet.

Ubisoft is forecasting Wii U titles to take up 6% of the company’s sales in the second half of the company’s financial year. Guillemot said “Wii U will drive the industry next year.”
