EVOLUTION OF POPULAR CARD GAME UNITES STORYTELLING, ROLE PLAYING, AND ACTION

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – February 13, 2009 – Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) announces an agreement with 4Kids Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: KDE) and Chaotic USA Entertainment Group, Inc. to publish Chaotic®, a video game based on the popular trading card game and animated television series. Chaotic is scheduled for release on Wii™, Nintendo DS™, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system in fall 2009.

The Chaotic video game combines action, role playing and turn-based strategy gameplay elements for an epic adventure in Perim, the stunning Chaotic world. Players adventure through vibrant, fully-realized 3D environments and interact with various characters from the best-selling trading card game and hit animated series. Players will build and manage their own army of Chaotic creatures while fighting enemies, collecting battlegear and unlocking new mugic® (magic) spells and attacks. The Chaotic video game features dramatic tactical battles, a variety of captivating gameplay modes, as well as powerful upgrades and valuable unlockables.

– The boy, Kisuke, is a fugitive ninja which lost his memories, to the point that he couldn’t even remember why he was being chased after. The only thing he is sure of, is that he is now motivated by an intense desire to pursue and find a certain “katana”, even if this means fighting for that.

– The girl, Momohime, is a pure and beautiful princess which was one day possessed by an evil spirit. This tragedy led her to flee her castle, and to vanish…

– You can use two types of katana : the regular, long sword, and the bigger sword. The regular swords excel in 1-on-1 and aerial battles, while the bigger, more powerful swords are better suited to take care of multiple enemies. The proper use of weapons depending on the situation is a key element of the battles.
It’s said that the battles are not just about blowing off enemies, as there are many strategic elements to them.

– You can perform defensive, as well as evasive moves, at the cost of a depleting soul gauge. When the gauge reachs zero, your weapon breaks, considerably reducing your attack power (you’ll then have to switch your sword).

– You can equip up to 3 katanas. After a certain time has elapsed, you’re able to use one of your weapon’s special power (“iai kiri”). To do that, just switch to it, and it will be unleashed automatically. Switching your weapons strategically is actually a key element.

– As you collect more and more katanas, you’ll find out that each of them has a different secret skill concealed within it (i.e : some spinning move, lightning-quick jabs, etc)

– That game takes place on the Genroku era’s Honshuu. You’re free to start the game with any of the two characters. If you choose Kisuke, you start from the West side of the map. Alternatively, if you choose Momohime, you start from the East side. From then the story of both characters branch out independently.

– On your quest, you’ll be able to meet various characters, visit some villages and cities where you’ll be able to shop, eat, and restore yourself, and experience many events.

-the development team actually invested a lot of time and effort into the animations which are played when you eat the various meals at the restaurants, so they hope you’ll enjoy them .

– You’ll be able to travel long distance in a short time thanks to boats and other vehicles, though you’ll have to pay for these services. You must be careful though, as you could have a few surprises during your trips…

– the preorder bonus will consist of a 2 meters long, reversible folding screen with artworks printed on it.

Re-record of legendary metal anthem ‘Ace of Spades’ joins the set list
Friday 13th February/… Once honoured by Metallica with seven Motörhead covers performed as “The Lemmys,” GRAMMY® Award-winning legend and lead vocalist and bassist of Motörhead, Lemmy, will take his rightful place on stage alongside Lars, James, Kirk and Robert in Activision Publishing Inc.’s Guitar Hero® Metallica® this spring.

Budding rockstars will have the opportunity to experience Lemmy’s in-game likeness as he wails away on vocals and shreds his bass guitar – or play as the icon himself. The rock ‘n’ roll legend, born Ian Kilmister, will have a familiar tune with him as Motörhead’s 2008 re-record of ‘Ace of Spades’ rocks its way into the set list.

Lemmy says, “It’s great to be in Guitar Hero with all these famous people and I’m really pleased to be in it with Metallica…but James is still taller than me.”

Nintendo Accounts for More Than Total Video Game Industry Growth in January Versus Last Year

Nintendo kicked off 2009 the same way it finished 2008: with a bang. While the video game industry grew by $150 million (12 percent) year-on-year, Nintendo’s total sales grew by $300 million in January, offsetting declines on other platforms.

Sales of the Wii™ console in January were up 148 percent over January 2008, with nearly 680,000 units sold, according to the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. Since Wii launched in November 2006, it has sold more than 18 million units in the United States.

Sales of the Nintendo DS™ system in January were also up 99 percent over January 2008, and it once again was the top-selling portable system with more than 510,000 units sold. Since Nintendo DS launched in November 2004, it has sold more than 28 million units in the United States.

“Nintendo’s significant contribution to January’s industry growth validates our internal research showing that Nintendo continues to expand the gaming audience,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “We are excited to see that consumers, new and existing, are choosing to entertain themselves in new ways with the diversity of our software lineup.”

Similar momentum was witnessed in software sales, with 20 of the top 30 games of January made for Nintendo systems. Of those, five games made for Nintendo systems finished in the top 10 best-sellers of January. These games include Wii Fit™ at No. 1 with more than 777,000 sold, Wii Play™ at No. 2 with nearly 415,000 sold, Mario Kart™ Wii at No. 3 with more than 292,000 sold, New Super Mario Bros. for Nintendo DS at No. 7 with nearly 135,000 sold, and Mario Kart™ DS at No. 8 with more than 132,000 sold.
