.hack//G.U Last Recode

Bandai Namco, along with CyberConnect2, released .hack//G.U. Last Recode back in 2017. It’s a remastered version of the action RPG from the PlayStation 2 era. A number of fans have expressed interest in a Switch version, but it’s not yet happened due to some resistance from Bandai Namco.

CyberConnect2 CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama addressed the possibility of a Switch port as part of a fan Q&A. He explained that the company has made multiple proposals, though Bandai Namco hasn’t given the green light since “it’s hard to predict the cost of porting and the sales prospects.” Matsuyama encourages those that want to see it happen contact Bandai Namco and relay their interest, stating that “they value fans’ feedback the most.”

Matsuyama’s full words:

“‘Have you ever thought of porting .hack//G.U. Last Recode to Switch?’ Of course, we have! We have actually made the proposal multiple times! Even during the production of Last Recode for PS4, we knew that Nintendo Switch was a huge hit all over the world and there was talk of releasing the game on Switch.

But I don’t know if you are aware of this, but .hack series have always been released exclusively for PlayStation. Of course, Last Recode was released not only on PS4, but also on Steam. So it’s available on the digital distribution service on PC as well. But because of our long-standing relationship with Sony, I understand that it was difficult to release it on Switch then at the same time. But the idea of releasing Last Recode on Nintendo Switch itself is appealing.

Frankly speaking, we’d love to do that. We have proposed the idea to Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. several times. But their response was… that it’s hard to predict the cost of porting and the sales prospects… For this reason, we were told that they were not able to make it happen and as a result, we haven’t been able to…

So I highly encourage you, the users of Nintendo Switch, to contact Bandai Namco directly and let them know that you want to play .hack//G.U. Last Recode on Switch! The more requests, the better! Your requests might be able to change their mind because they value fans’ feedback the most. Of course, we will continue to make this request as well but we would love your support! We also want to release the game on Switch! Thank you for your support.”

If .hack//G.U. Last Recode does ever make its way to Switch, we’ll be sure to pass along the announcement. For now, you can see what the game is all about with the trailer below.
