How to get a horse in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Today, we’re going over how to complete the Runaway Horse quest in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom and get your very own steed.

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is available now, and it’s got the largest overworld of any 2D entry in the series. That means traversing it on foot takes a long time. Fortunately, it’s possible to unlock the ability to tame and ride horses from Hyrule Ranch pretty early on in the game. This is done through the Runaway Horse side quest, which you can activate by talking to a man in Hyrule Ranch (which is a ways northwest from Lueburry’s House, if you’ve made it there).

How to get a horse in Echoes of Wisdom

Once you’ve activated the side quest, head west from Hyrule Ranch. Take a look at the mini-map in the screenshot above if you need an exact location – the horse is standing on an island in the middle of a pool. You’ll need to use echoes to get to the pool. From there, hop on the horse and carefully ride it out of the pool and back towards the ranch. We simply stacked two beds on top of each other, and you’ll certainly have that Echo by the time this side quest becomes available to you. When you arrive back at the ranch, you’ll finish the quest and can then use any of the horses you’d like however you please. That said, using Waypoints is probably a faster way to get around Hyrule. Still, it’s another side quest to check off the list.
