[Let’s Talk] Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 reactions

Posted on April 5, 2025 by (@NE_Brian) in Let's Talk, Switch 2

After weeks of anticipation, the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 finally aired this week. Nintendo fully unveiled its new console with the release date, rundown of features, a blowout of games, and more.

Nintendo Switch 2 is now confirmed to launch on June 5, 2025 worldwide. It will have a variety of features, including GameChat, mouse support with the Joy-Con, GameCube support on Nintendo Switch Online, and more.

In terms of games, we found out about Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Drag x Drive, and Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour plus a smattering of Nintendo Switch 2 Editions including Super Mario Party Jamboree, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Metroid Prime 4, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A. A ton of third-party titles are coming over, including FromSoftware’s exclusive The Duskbloods, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, Deltarune, Cyberpunk 2077, Split Fiction, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster, and much more. You can catch up on everything here.

The one point that many have expressed concern over following the presentation is the price. For the system itself, it’s $450 – or $500 with Mario Kart World. Game prices seem to vary as Mario Kart World itself costs $80 while Donkey Kong Bananza is priced at $70.

With everything shown this week, what are your thoughts on the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 presentation and the system in general? Let us know in the comments.

Highlights from last week’s topic: March 2025 Nintendo Direct reactions

Basically: Patapon 1+2, Rhythm Heaven and the new Tomodachi Life game

as for Switch 2 Direct, All i want is confirmation that the Switch 2 will be region free like the original Switch as i don’t want to repeat the 3DS years where the handheld is region locked and we’re stuck with a generation where we’re forced to beg for localizations just for us to play them because of said region lock

Save for Metroid, Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life, it was pretty lame, but not unexpected. Biggest surprise for me was the Switch getting a couple of PS games.
Looking forward to the Switch 2 direct.

My 3 biggest take aways are
#1: raidou, let’s go

#2: the switch is going to be around for a while and it’s probably going to have better late life support than the DS or 3ds. Rhythm heaven is kinda niche but tomodachi life is a big deal, not my thing but big regardless, like it could be a system seller. The switch 1 will probably stick around because not all games need powerful hardware. Like when the next Mario party comes out does that really need to be switch 2 exclusive? Would games like Captain toad or famicom detective club actually benefit from switch 2 exclusivity.

#3 Sony is going to support the switch without saying they support the switch. When it was just Lego horizon that felt like a fluke but now with freedom wars, everybody golf and patapon this is clearly a new strategy. I doubt they’ll ever port something like Spider-Man or last of us or Astro bot but those dormant Japan studio series like loco roco, ape escape, legend of the dragoon or gravity rush might have a chance at getting revivals under 3rd party publishers

Pretty Much about as possible as one could expect a Direct to be at this point in the Switch’s lifecycle.
