[Let’s Talk] What are you playing? – December 2024

Posted on December 7, 2024 by (@NE_Brian) in Let's Talk

A new month just started up a few days ago. Now that we’re in December, we want to know what you’ve been playing.

Have you been picking up some of the bigger Nintendo Switch games to have released as of late like Fantasian Neo Dimension or Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake? Are you still going through Mario & Luigi: Brothership? No matter the case, let us know in the comments below.

Highlights from last week’s topic: Which Zelda gameplay style do you prefer?

Ragnell

I’m a fan of all three, but open air is my favorite. There is one thing I don’t really like even though the player doesn’t have to do it and that’s the ability/item/echo that completely breaks the puzzles.

The black spider echo is a good example for a “skip” mechanic. You can get it soon after dungeon 1 with its utility allowing you to climb any wall.

Im currently doing a cheeseless run of Tears to truly analyze its dungeons and puzzles. I enjoyed the Fire Temple much more when I was forced to tackle it as intended.

My hopes for the next Zelda is to have more balance with restrictions and freedom.

Andrew Burch

I think Echoes of Widsom just about perfected the Zelda formula. Linearity where appropriate and lock-and-key progression in dungeons, but PLENTY of room for exploration and experimentation.

Whatever Echoes of Wisdom is doing. What a triumph of a Zelda game.

J.L. Ender

I’ve enjoyed them all, though open air is my favorite.

But the best thing about the series has been their ability to evolve it and keep things interesting without losing what makes them fun. I feel like Echoes is a really good example of that, merging elements from different styles of gameplay with new stuff for a unique experience.
