German magazine GamePro has awarded the first verdict for Mario Kart 8. Nintendo’s new racer, set for a May 30 release, earned a 90% score.

Battle mode (balloons) only on regular tracks! No arenas!
new and old tracks are fantastic!
blue shells are way too common (the editor wrote that he sometimes got 3-4 hits within one race)
online play could not be tested (no servers online)
