Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope multiplayer

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope won’t feature any sort of multiplayer modes. That’s according to Quentin Correggi, the associate producer on the game.

We recently had the opportunity to speak with Correggi, and one of the topics we discussed is whether the game will feature PvP like the original title. That led to the confirmation that Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is scrapping multiplayer entirely, with the game planned “exclusively a solo experience.”

Correggi explained to Nintendo Everything that the team decided to go for a follow-up to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle that is “much more ambitious”, resulting in the decision “to focus as much as possible the efforts on delivering the solo experience that is the core of the game.”

Correggi shared the following with us:

“So, no, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will be exclusively a solo experience. And I can talk a bit more in detail about why.

When we build a project that is so ambitious… because once again, on every single pillar we decided to be much more ambitious than in Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle… it’s important to ‘choose your battle’ in a way, which is good because we are also building a tactical game about battles! But for us, it was really important to focus as much as possible the efforts on delivering the solo experience that is the core of the game. And it was much easier and more efficient to focus the whole team on delivering the best experience as possible. So yeah – 100% solo experience for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.”

The original Mario + Rabbids offered local co-op in which players could team up with someone else on the same system. A few months after launch, a new Versus Mode was added – also locally – in which players could battle against each other and use random bonus items.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope launches for Switch on October 20, 2022.
