Mario & Sonic 2020 was originally planned to be huge crossover with Zelda, Pokemon, Dragon Ball, tons more
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 turned out to be a fairly standard entry in the Nintendo x SEGA crossover sports series, but it seems that the original plan for the game was originally much grander.
Tons of additional franchises and IPs were apparently going to be added. There was interest in including “Pokemon, Street Fighter, Mega Man, Dragon Ball, Metal Gear Solid, Sonic Family, Mario Family, Zelda some Sony and Microsoft properties / characters.”
That news comes from Lee Cocker, who previously worked on every Mario & Sonic game. He told one fan on social media that the initial crossover plan “was a very big idea that didn’t happen.” He added: “Certain characters could only be used for certain events.”
Cocker also said last year that the Mario & Sonic series is finished. In other words, we apparently won’t be getting a new entry anytime soon.
What do you think of that original crossover idea? Would you have liked to see it become a reality? Let us know in the comments.
