Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 physical release has huge download on Switch

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will indeed be receiving a physical release – which isn’t surprising since Konami has pretty much always done that for the series – but collectors won’t be happy to hear that much of it requires a download.
Almost nothing appears to be included on the actual cartridge. It does contain 2.4GB of data, but it sounds like players will essentially need to download most of the actual content. The site mentions 24.1GB that’s needed, and then if you’re interested in the bonus videos, that’s another 30GB.
Here’s what’s stated on Konami’s official website about the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 Switch physical download:
- Physical Version : 24.1GB ( *Front loaded onto cartridge 2.4GB )
- Metal Gear Solid- Master Collection Version : 4.8GB
- excl. MG&MG2 : 3.4GB
- incl. MG&MG2 : 4.8GB ( Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake : 1.4GB )
- Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty – Master Collection Version : 8.0GB
- Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater – Master Collection Version : 12.2GB
- Bonus Content : 1.0GB + 30 GB for bonus videos
- Metal Gear Solid- Master Collection Version : 4.8GB
If you’re going the digital route, then this won’t be as big a deal. All of the Metal Gear Solid games will also be available for individual purchase on the eShop.
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 was officially confirmed for Switch during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct. This is on track to launch on October 24, 2023.
