Mojang held a special Minecraft Earth event earlier today. All sorts of big news was shared at the event, including

First, the new update for Switch is officially coming in 2018. Mojang said that it wants to ensure it can deliver players “the best experience possible.” The Super Duper Graphics pack is also pushed back to 2018 since a lot of work still needs to be done.

Here’s the full rundown on all of the news from Minecon Earth:

Minecraft’s oceans are going to get their biggest update ever! The Update Aquatic pours a ton of new features into the game, including coral, kelp, more types of fish, dolphins, explorable shipwrecks, new water physics and more! A newly revamped ocean will require a new weapon for you to defend yourself, so the Update Aquatic will also introduce the trident. Not only can this weapon be thrown at enemies and used in close-combat, it can also be enchanted for ace tactical advantages. The Loyalty enchantment will make it come back to you even after you’ve thrown it, while enchantments like Impaler and Slipstream Dash will… well, we’ll let you use your imagination! The Update Aquatic will come to Minecraft in a future update.

To celebrate MINECON Earth, we’re giving away several pieces of Marketplace content! We shared more details about this last Monday, and you can click here to find out more about them and get your free stuff!.

Introducing our latest server partner, The Hive! They’re bringing their excellent mini-game, Death Run, to Minecraft later this year. In Death Run, players race through a map, overcoming obstacles, avoiding traps and proving their parkour prowess to be the first one to reach the end! Start practising your running skills now, as Death Run on The Hive will be coming to Minecraft very soon.

We also want to update you on the Super Duper Graphics pack. While originally set for release this year, there’s a lot of work to be done still and we’re not going to be ready to launch it in 2017. We’ll be releasing Super Duper next year, and we’ll have more information for you here on soon.

Separately, the Nintendo Switch community will still be getting the new version of Minecraft with cross-platform multiplayer, but not until 2018. Nintendo has been a great partner and we’re really excited to fully bring Switch players into the fold, however, we need to make sure we deliver the best experience possible. So the new version of Minecraft will now be coming to Nintendo Switch next year. Xbox One, PC, mobile and Nintendo Switch, all playing multiplayer Minecraft together in 2018 – I’m getting emotional just thinking about it…

We have a winner! Congratulations to Mob B you’ll be added to Minecraft! Thank you to everyone who voted. It’s fantastic that our players got to be involved in what goes in the game!

And another huge thank you for being part of MINECON Earth! We couldn’t put on shows like this if it weren’t for the support from our countless players all over the world. You truly helped us make a livestream and show that’s accessible for everyone.

Now if you’ll excuse me, hibernation awaits!
