Next Level Games co-founder Douglas Tronsgard is retiring
Douglas Tronsgard has announced that he’s retiring from Next Level Games and the industry as a whole.
Up until now, Tronsgard has been acting as the company’s president. He was also a co-founder and the developer’s CEO, though he stepped down from that position last year.
Next Level Games is currently hard at work on Mario Strikers: Battle League, which launches in June. The studio has also made a couple of Luigi’s Mansion games – those being Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon on 3DS and Luigi’s Mansion 3 for Switch. Other Nintendo games created at Next Level include Punch-Out!! and Metroid Prime: Federation Force.
Tronsgard posted the following message on his LinkedIn page regarding retirement:
After over 20 years in the Video Game Industry, I am happy to announce my retirement. I wanted to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped me on my journey to get here. A special thank you to Nintendo for believing in me and Next Level Games. It’s truly been my honor to be a part of NLG’s incredible history.
I look forward to a new chapter in my life that should involve lots of travelling with my wife. :).
Take care everyone and enjoy the journey!
Douglas.
Next Level Games was founded in 2002. In January 2021, Nintendo announced that it had acquired the company.
