Nintendo Switch 2 June launch explained

Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser has weighed in on the decision to launch Switch 2 in June.

Bowser said that the company isn’t locked into specific time frames to launch gaming products. For June though, it’s not a bad choice given that the summer is starting (with kids starting to finish school for the year). Since Nintendo Switch 2 is portable, you can take it anywhere – which works well for a vacation.

Bowser said the following in an interview with NPR:

“We like to think that the year is a year and that there are no specific time frames when you should or must launch video games. And so, as we looked at the games that we had prepared and ready to launch with the hardware, we thought June was a very good timing. It’s the start of summer season, and obviously, with a Nintendo Switch 2, you have a device that you can both play at home and play at home docked like a gaming console, or you can take it out of the dock and take it on the go. So it’s a perfect game for summer travel.”

You might associate new gaming platform launches with the holidays. However, even Nintendo itself has been more than willing to bring out new systems at different times. With the original Nintendo Switch for example, that one dropped in March. We also saw the N64 in June (in Japan, North America got it in September). For the Game Boy Advance, that one also came out here in the west during the month of June.

Bowser also recently commented on a new Mario game for Nintendo Switch 2, telling fans to “stay tuned”.
