Nintendo Switch 2 has now outsold Wii U, fastest-selling Nintendo system to date
Nintendo has achieved not one, but two sales milestones today, and now we have news about Switch 2. The console has outsold Wii U in just a matter of months.
In its lifetime, Wii U sold just a total of 13.56 million units. In less than a year, Nintendo Switch 2 has sold a total of 17.37. Wii U was unfortunately a big miss for Nintendo, but it’s clear there’s significant interest for Switch 2 as was the case with its predecessor.
The one thing Wii U has a leg up on is software sales – though that shouldn’t last long. Wii U’s software sales stand at 103.60 million units compared to 37.93 million on Nintendo Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch 2 will next look to surpass GameCube. That system only managed to sell a total of 21.74 million units worldwide.
Also confirmed today is that Switch 2 is the fastest-selling Nintendo system ever based on sell-through. This is pictured in the graphic below.
The other sales milestone we were referring to above is the original Nintendo Switch overtaking the DS. You can read more about that here.
