Nintendo Switch 2 sales record PS2 Japan

In a report from Yomiuri, the outlet reveals that Nintendo Switch 2 beaten PS2 for sales record in Japan. This is based on sales data provided by Famitsu.

Nintendo Switch 2 appears to have sold at least 1.5 million units in Japan during its first month. However, Famitsu doesn’t track data for units sold by Nintendo, so that number would be quite a bit higher. Famitsu tracks sales from over 3,000 stores in Japan.

In any case, the current figure for Nintendo Switch 2 stands at 1,538,260 units sold, setting a new console record. The PlayStation 2 had sold 1,134,862 units.

The previous record holder for Nintendo systems was the Game Boy Advance (which was a handheld) at 1,367,433 system sold in its first month, followed by the Nintendo DS at 1,269,846. The original Nintendo Switch only sold 556,633 units, which ended up being the best-selling gaming platform ever in Japan.

Nintendo has been keeping quiet about Switch 2 sales aside from the launch, though we did hear that after less than a week, it sold 3.5 million units worldwide. We should be getting an update next week when the company reports its latest financial results.
