Nintendo Switch Online confirms GameCube games for Switch 2, first games revealed [update: controller pre-orders]
April 2: Nintendo Switch Online made a major announcement today with GameCube games now confirmed for the platform. It will be available alongside launch.
This is the first time that Nintendo will be offering these titles as part of its classics service. During the Virtual Console days, support stopped with the N64. GameCube games have only been sold as individual releases, sometimes as updated remasters.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2, and F-Zero GX are all confirmed with more titles to be added – specifically Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Pokemon XD, Super Mario Strikers, Chibi-Robo, Luigi’s Mansion, and Pokemon Colisseum. It will be possible to play online with friends. Customizable controls are supported.
Similar to other platforms, a special GameCube controller will be released, and it includes a C button. It will be offered exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online members.
Nintendo Switch Online also supports NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance. On the third-party front, SEGA Genesis is also available.
May 1: The GameCube controller will first be made available on Nintendo’s website between May 8, 2025 and May 12, 2025. This date applies to Nintendo Switch 2 early purchase access invitation recipients. The controller will then be sold starting on May 13 to paid Nintendo Switch Online membership holders. You’ll be able to grab it here.
May 13: All Nintendo Switch Online members now have an opportunity to place an order for the controller. They can do so here.
