Famitsu is reporting that Takao Yamane has joined PlatinumGames. Although he’s not a name that immediately comes to mind when thinking of Nintendo, he spent nearly thirty years with the company.

Yamane started out as vice president of Nintendo France SARL, which he held for eight years. After that he spent over eighteen years as Nintendo of Europe’s managing director of sales planning and strategy. He closed out his run as general manager of the licensing department at Nintendo Co., Ltd.

Takao Yamane is said to be joining PlatinumGames as the company’s new chief business officer. In doing so, it marks a “significant” change for the studio and a “new era”. Yamane says his involvement will help Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba “make their dreams become reality.” He added that Project G.G. was “incredible,” and Kamiya has teased a new direction for PlatinumGames’ creative projects.

PlatinumGames is currently hard at work on wrapping up Bayonetta 3, which will be arriving on Switch this October. Other titles the developer is known for include Astral Chain, The Wonderful 101, and NieR: Automata – which is finally hitting Nintendo’s console a few months from now.

More information about Yamane’s new role at PlatinumGames will be shared in this week’s issue of Famitsu.
