Pokemon Presents predictions for Pokemon Day 2026
At the time of writing, an official Pokemon Presents hasn’t been officially announced – but there’s no way it won’t be, right? The Pokemon Company has held a Pokemon Day broadcast every single year for as long as we can remember, and 2026 will be no exception. Be sure to clear your calendar, because the presentation is generally held at around 9 AM EST on February 27 each year. Each broadcast follows a similar format, which makes predicting them fairly straightforward. This year, we fully expect the tenth generation of Pokemon to be revealed for Nintendo Switch 2 – it’s been four years since Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and it seems Pokemon Legends: Z-A is done getting updates and new content now that the Mega Dimension DLC has released. So here are our (very safe) predictions and wishes for Pokemon Day, the Pokemon Presents, and the tenth generation of Pokemon. It’ll be interesting to see how much of this comes true!
Starting off strong with things that won’t happen, it’d be amazing to see older Pokemon titles on Nintendo Switch. Historically, we’ve only ever received games like Pokemon Stadium and the like – ones that aren’t main series games. We’re still due for Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, which are confirmed to be heading to Nintendo Switch Online’s GameCube app. What we really want, though, are mainline Pokemon games like Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal. These were all available on Nintendo 3DS toward the end of its life, but are nowhere to be found on Nintendo Switch. And while we’re at it, we should have Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen. If we had to guess, these would be released as standalone titles to purchase rather than part of Nintendo Switch Online. NSO features rewind and save states, which Pokemon historically has not allowed even for its legacy titles. Unfortunately, fans have been clamoring for these titles for many Pokemon Day presentations year after year, and they’ve never happened. Given how likely generation 10 is to be revealed exclusively on Switch 2, maybe they would want older titles available for Nintendo Switch players who don’t have a Switch 2 just yet. Who knows!
One thing we’ll definitely see is Pokemon Champions, which is Pokemon’s new main battle simulator game. This is where all of the future VGC tournaments will take place – that way, main series games can experiment a bit more and let you transfer your Pokemon to Champions. Though we know it’s coming out in 2026, we don’t have an exact release date. We’ll almost certainly get that, and while we’re at it, there’s a hidden Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A that can only be accessed via events. Most of you probably know which Pokemon this is by now, but just in case you’re not spoiled, we won’t reveal its identity. As far as other small things go, we’ll almost certainly see something on Pokemon Pokopia in some way, which is to be a big release for Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. Despite its upcoming release date in March, we don’t really know a ton about the game or its gameplay loop. We’ll at least receive a small overview trailer, at minimum.
What we probably won’t receive, however, are Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of previous Pokemon games. All of them look blurry and stretched on handheld, and they all run at 30 frames per second. Pokemon Legends: Arceus in particular could really use a resolution and frame rate boost, and they’d be welcome for Sword and Shield as well. There’s absolutely no way they touch Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl again, but the game could easily be bumped up to 60 frames per second. A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition can’t fix any of BDSP’s dozens of significant flaws, but it’s at least something! We think Pokemon will probably focus on new games and not do Switch 2 Editions of previous ones, however. One thing that would be nice is a Nintendo Switch 2 resolution patch for Pokemon Home, which now looks blurry in handheld mode. Definitely a silly request, but it’d still be nice to have. We can also expect Pokemon Home compatibility for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which for some crazy reason still is not available yet.
Every Pokemon Presents is full of mobile game updates. You’ve got to run through Pokemon Go, Pokemon Masters, Pokemon Cafe Remix, and the like. Most of the presentation is dedicated to these titles, to be honest, and a lot of times fans are frustrated at how much time is given to them. However, keep in mind that Pokemon can make their presentations as long as they want. The mobile games aren’t taking time away from the potential main series announcements and updates you care about.
Finally, we’ve got the tenth generation of Pokemon, which is nearly guaranteed to show up on February 27. At least until we hear otherwise, these games are slated to release exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were incredibly ambitious games in theory, but in execution, had environments with little to no detail as well as significant performance issues on Nintendo Switch 1. If Pokemon tried to release an even more ambitious title on the system, we don’t have a very good feeling for how that would turn out. With Nintendo Switch 2’s drastically increased power, however, it’s much more realistic to expect a Pokemon game that looks great (for being a Pokemon game) and runs well. We made a big post about all of our wishes for the 10th generation of Pokemon a little while back, and you can check that out right here if you’re interested. In addition to some gameplay footage, we’ll likely wind up seeing the starter Pokemon and the box Legendary Pokemon, likely with an early November release date.
Interestingly, Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for release on November 19, 2026, which means Pokemon is going to want to avoid releasing their games at around the same time – even if the audiences may be different. Assuming it keeps its release date, GTA 6 will be a release so massive that it’s difficult to fully describe in words. Most publishers, including Nintendo, are going to want to avoid launching games at around the same since so many players will be busy with that other title. And if we’re being completely real, the farther away Gen 10 releases from GTA 6, the fewer graphics comparisons there will be. In its current state, Pokemon cannot even begin to rival Rockstar Games’ graphical prowess.
And those are our predictions! They’re pretty safe, as we mentioned. Do your predictions line up with ours? Is there anything you want or expect to see from Pokemon that we didn’t mention here? Feel free to let us know in the comments down below.
