Reggie on the one-two combo of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey for Switch, taking chances
Nintendo kicked off Switch’s launch with a bang thanks to Zelda: Breath of the Wild. If that wasn’t enough, Super Mario Odyssey has arrived just in time for the holidays. These two games have helped made Switch’s first year very special.
Reggie spoke about having Zelda and Mario ready early on for Switch in an interview with TechCrunch. He noted that Nintendo was lucky in terms of the development schedule, with a game like Breath of the Wild being far along in development.
Reggie said:
“We were fortunate that Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild was far along in its development. It could be that anchor title from a day-one launch perspective. And then to have Super Mario Odyssey as the key game going into the holiday. It was, on one hand, quite well planned. But the other piece is that it always comes down to the development schedule.”
The interview also had some words from Reggie about Nintendo taking chances:
“We are a company that always takes chances. We are fortunate in that often times those chances and risks win in the marketplace, but sometimes they don’t. But at its heart, we believe in differentiated experiences.”
