Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure producer Shun Nakamura talked all about his 3DS game in a new interview.

Nakamura discussed that the project was originally planned for the DS, how he would’ve included Wi-Fi downloads had he known about the feature prior to development, sequel possibilities on the Wii U and 3DS, and what he thinks about putting main character Raphael in a game like Smash Bros. or Mario Kart.

Read on below for Nakamura’s comments.

Nakamura on whether or not Rhythm Thief was originally planned for the DS…

“We started development of the game for the Nintendo 3DS around the summer of 2010, but it was originally developed for the Nintendo DS as you mentioned and it started about a year earlier. Actually we set up the plan itself long before.”

Nakamura on whether or not he ever considered Wi-Fi downloads to keep gamers playing…

“I did not consider it just because I did not know the feature was planned to be included in the 3DS when we started the development back on the DS. I would have considered if I knew it at the early stage!”

Nakamura on whether or not he has ideas for a second Rhythm Thief…

“Not yet, but I have many things I would like to do for the game system and scenario. I think the sequel will exceed the original if I could realise exactly what I currently have in mind.”

Nakamura on whether or not he thinks he could successfully make a Rhythm Thief for Wii U/interest in making a 3DS sequel instead…

“I would like to try on both consoles. I would especially like to create a virtual play version of the “Looting the Louvre” part because moving the body really fits into rhythm games.”

Nakamura on whether or not he would like to see Raphael featured in games like Smash Bros. or Mario Kart…

“He is a fledgling character so it may be too early to feature in those games yet, but if he has the chance, I would like to combine rhythm and attacks and see him doing some actions in time with the rhythm, such as using a special technique where the player inputs a button combination in certain pattern and timing. Also, it would be fun if other characters began dancing when Raphael starts dancing!”
