Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition out on Switch in July, new trailer
Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition finally has a release date on Switch. The game is due out on July 31, 2023, Apogee Entertainment, New Blood Interactive, and Nightdive Studios announced today.
Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is man updated version of the cult classic first-person shooter. This was first made known in 2020 as Rise of the Triad Remastered. The name change was shared last September and it most recently had an early 2023 launch window.
Here’s an overview of the game:
Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is more than a faithful recreation of the highly influential, genre-defining shooter. Thanks to Nightdive Studios’ proprietary KEX engine, it is the original shooter in its true form, built with the original source code. Experience a perfect mix of past and present with 60+ frames-per-second gameplay, classic pixelated artwork upscaled to 4K resolution, increased field-of-view, cloud saves, achievements, and more.
Join the H.U.N.T., an elite squad of special forces and investigate mysterious activity off the California coast and unravel the mystery of the Triad cult. Select from five operatives, each with their own hit points, speed and accuracy statistics, and blast a path back to Los Angeles. Play through five separate campaigns including new episodes, expansion packs and never-before-seen Rise of the Triad content from previously-lost beta builds.
Splatter blood and gibs (LUDICROUS GIBS!) across the island with over-the-top weaponry like dual-wield pistols (the first dual-wield in video game history), heat-seeker missiles, and earth-shaking Firebombs. Take the H.U.N.T. online without the hassle of dial-up internet with multiplayer COMM-BAT supporting up to 11 players. Go one-versus-ten in Hunter mode, and encounter the first ever capture-the-flag mode in FPS history in “Capture the Triad” mode. Experience the FPS that revolutionized 1994 by adding verticality.
Recreate any Rise of the Triad experience with multiple iterations of the classic original soundscape, or rock out to the heavy metal 2013 reboot soundtrack. Inject the perfect dose of fast-paced FPS madness into the mix with an all-new level editor, and get the upper hand on enemies with the inclusion of ROTT’s original cheat codes (if you can remember them!).
Scott Miller, founder of Apogee Entertainment and original project manager of Rise of the Triad, said today: “Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is a blast to the past in the best way possible. I would know, I was there! It was a pivotal title that pushed the FPS genre forward, and thanks to the KEX engine from Nightdive, the original version lives on for another generation to experience a piece of FPS history.”
