Sonic Superstars physics

Sonic Superstars fans will be happy to hear that SEGA has brought over the physics from Sonic Mania and translated them into modern 3D.

That news comes from Christian Whitehead, the director of Sonic Mania. He was responding to a tweet comparing the physics from that release and the upcoming Sonic Superstars.

Here’s the tweet in question:

Nailing the physics is one of the most important aspects of 2D Sonic, but thankfully it sounds like SEGA and Arzest are getting things right here. Sonic Mania was praised for replicating the feel of the series’ original games, so that should be one less thing to worry about when it comes to Sonic Superstars.

It was recently confirmed that Arzest is leading development on Sonic Superstars. That prompted some concern as the studio has a mix track record – including Balan Wonderworld which was not received well – but initial impressions have been positive so far. Naoto Ohshima, the original creator of Sonic the Hedgehog, is involved with this project.

Sonic Superstars arrives on Switch this fall as both a physical and digital release. You can check out our hands-on preview here (with some gameplay) and screenshots from the game on Nintendo’s console here.
