Sonic x Shadow Generations sales surpass two million

SEGA just announced a new sales milestone for Sonic x Shadow Generations with the game surpassing two million copies sold. That’s based on all platforms combined.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is a title that combines two games: Sonic Generations, where players can enjoy speed-running various stages with Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic, enhanced with new elements, and “Shadow Generations,” a completely new game featuring the dark hero Shadow racing through dynamic environments. The story begins as a mysterious creature called the “Time Eater” creates distortions in time and space, setting off separate adventures for Sonic and Shadow. Players can look forward to a high-speed action-adventure with distinct gameplay experiences and narratives.

In addition to offering a new Sonic gameplay experience, this title supports 12 languages to reach a wider global audience and was released simultaneously worldwide on multiple platforms. It was also involved in large-scale global promotions, including exhibiting at events worldwide.

To grow the Sonic intellectual property further, we have focused on transmedia development as an important strategy involving global expansion across various media verticals and merchandising. Furthermore, this fiscal year is themed “Fearless: Year of Shadow” for the Sonic intellectual property, focusing on global initiatives that highlight Shadow.

The movie Sonic the Hedgehog 3, released last December, has grossed over $425 million at the worldwide box office, surpassing the series’ previous record of $405 million. In addition to this game, the mobile game Sonic Rumble is scheduled to be released. We will work to raise awareness of the Sonic intellectual property further and expand the brand.

SEGA has seen a great deal of success with Sonic the Hedgehog in recent years. It was also recently announced that the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie has grossed over $425 million at the worldwide box office, surpassing the series’ previous record of $405 million.

The sales of Sonic x Shadow Generations are similar to those of Sonic Frontiers. At the end of 2022, we heard that game moved over 2.5 million units.

According a note in today’s press release, SEGA “will work to raise awareness of the Sonic IP further and expand the brand.” Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is currently confirmed to be in development for Nintendo Switch, and you can read about that here.
