Super Nintendo World may have a cactus design based on Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii fan mod
Super Nintendo World has all sorts of props relating to the Mario series. However, there’s one asset that may have been built by using a fan mod as a reference.
Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii is a mod created without Nintendo’s involvement. Fans developed the project with their own levels, bosses, music, and more. It also has original assets, including a particular type of cactus that has now been spotted at Super Nintendo World – flower and all.
The image included above is a photo taken at the theme park. For reference, here’s what the cactus design looks like in Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii:
Twitter user Meatball132, who shared the news, speculates that this was an innocent mistake:
I didn't work on Newer Wii but am currently on the Newer Team making the remastered version. One of the artists noticed, we told some of the original developers and they seemed to agree that it was definitely Newer's cacti. Lol.

It's the exact same shape; see the bend on the left arm. The flower is in the exact same position. And there's a bevel on the top that's the same.
Plus, official Mario cacti don't look anything like the Newer ones. It's not like the Newer ones were based on a Nintendo graphic. pic.twitter.com/0xPGfS78av

The two designs do seem extremely similar, though some believe it’s just a generic-looking cactus. Even if they’re the same, it remains to be seen if Super Nintendo World will change up their asset in the future.
Thanks to Jake for the tip.
