Switch surpasses DS to become best-selling system ever in Japan
Switch has overtaken DS to become the best-selling gaming system ever in Japan. That’s according to the latest data from Famitsu.
Earlier today, the outlet reported that Switch sold another 40,000 units. The console’s overall total now sits at 32,903,701 units. To compare, the DS sold 32,864,129 units total in Japan. Switch secured the record during its 377th week on the market.
Switch is also close to taking the worldwide record. As of March 31, the device’s overall sales stand at 141.32 million units. The total for DS is 154.02 million units. Right ahead of the handheld is the PS2, which has an official count of 155 million units but could sit closer to 160 million.
Switch still has a good amount of time remaining on the market. Nintendo officially acknowledged the system’s successor last month, which will be announced by March 2025. However, it’s unclear when the new system will actually launch.
