Switch update out now (version 16.0.2), patch notes
A new firmware update has just gone out for Switch, and version 16.0.2 should be rolling out for everyone.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, stability is again the focus here. This is a pattern we’ve seen with the past several updates.
Nintendo has shared the following patch notes for the Switch version 16.0.2 update:
- General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.
Switch just received its version 16.0.1 update a few weeks ago, which was also about stability. Even before that, with the version 16.0.0, it contained stability improvements and made it so user nicknames that cannot be used are replaced with “???” which can be updated from the profile settings. Some may have expected new features with the big number change, but that didn’t happen in the end.
As with all other updates, the Switch version 16.0.2 should eventually be downloaded automatically for most system owners. However, it can also be forced by visiting the system settings, accessing the “System” tab, and select the “System Update” option. Since this is ultimately a fairly minor update, it shouldn’t take very long to complete.
