toi8 on his new challenge with Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, a bit on character designs
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 8 Comments
toi8 is busy helping out with Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem’s character designs. On his official blog, toi8 spoke about what the project means to him, and touched on how it’s a new challenge for him.
Hello. I’m toi8, and I’ll be in charge of the main character designs for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. As for when we began talking about this title, it was around the time I finished working on a piece of light novel cover art. It was around the time that I was handling one-shot work, and asked myself “what should I do next?”
As part of the generation that grew up on Nintendo consoles such as the Famicom and Super Famicom, the name “Nintendo” has a very special meaning to me. I remember being very excited upon hearing about the [Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem] collaboration.
Years later, I’ve finally been able to see it take form right before my eyes, and I find myself filled with deep emotion.
Now, let’s quickly talk a little bit about the character designs. The stage of the game is set in Shibuya, and the background shows a gorgeous world, so the character design’s direction will go with a highly saturated, gorgeous look.
Everything I’ve drawn up until now has been low saturation, so this will be a challenge of colors!
Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold – Classic Mode trailer
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, Videos | 0 comments
Atlus’ latest trailer for Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold provides a new look at the game’s Classic Mode. Watch it below.
And here’s the pertinent information regarding Classic Mode:
Unlike Story Mode, which has a fixed party and intricate storyline, Classic Mode gives players full access to character creation, as well as being able to customize characters using Grimoire Stones, which grant any character class to use another class’ skills.
One fun thing to note in the video, the background music is the “Classic” version as well, which uses the original Nintendo DS music. Like in the first Untold title, a newly added orchestral score can be selected from the options menu at any time.

Atlus outlines Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker’s DLC
Posted on 9 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 1 Comment
In a new press release, Atlus provides plenty of information about the downloadable content in Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker.
All DLC in the game come in the form of a Free Battle, and if you’re successful, your party will reap the benefits. However, each battle except the Beginner’s Brawl scale incrementally with your protagonist’s level. This means that obtaining the rewards won’t be so easy.
Here’s what you should know about the “FreeLC”, which will be permanently free:
Beginner’s Brawl — This is the one Free Battle that won’t scale with level, so make sure to tackle it early on. The enemies are a little on the weak side, but can still pack a punch if you’re not careful. Defeating them will earn you some quick Macca (demonic currency) to blow at the Demon Auction and get your team started off right.
Lost Demon Rescue — A persuadable demon is caught in the middle of two hordes. If you can protect the demon and survive the onslaught, the demon will join your party! Use it to bolster your ranks or keep it for fusion fodder. (Not to mention that some of the demons you’re up against have useful skills to crack!)
Next up is paid content. All of the content below is priced at 99 cents (CA$1.49):
Macca Makes an Escape — This battle poses a chase scenario. Demons are fleeing with their pockets stuffed with Macca, and it will be up to the player to run them down and beat the payout out of them. The demons are carrying three times the usual amount of Macca, and even though they’re fleeing, they’ll put up a good fight if you catch them.
All Skills Must Go! — Scattered around the battlefield are memory sticks loaded with powerful skills for your party. But the demons around have their eyes on them too, and will try and abscond with the memory sticks. This is one situation when you’re going to want to make sure to use non-combat skills that slow down enemies and/or speed up your party, because nothing is as infuriating as watching a Moh Shuvuu fly off with a powerful healing skill.
Let the Demons Grow — This is an old-fashioned free-for-all battle. These demons are loaded with extra experience, so systematically pick them off to reap EXP rewards and level your entire party.
Addonetarium — This battle is for higher-level characters, but is hugely beneficial towards the middle of the game when you can start implementing add-ons to your fusion. Basically, the add-ons give the fused demon a specific bonus, and can mean the difference between an average demon and all-powerful killing machine.
Finally, here’s the DLC launch schedule:
May 5 – Game launch, Beginner’s Brawl, Macca Makes an Escape!
May 12 – All Skills Must Go!, Lost Demon Rescue, Let the Demons Grow
May 19 – Addonetarium
Fans can also look forward to SpotPass content that will be sent out over the same period. Players will be able to obtain new demons to fuse as well as party skills to use in battle.
