It’s time for the latest Famitsu‘s most wanted games chart. Dragon Quest XI retains its position while Fire Emblem Echoes moves up another spot.

A recent issue of Famitsu contained an interview about Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers. The magazine caught up with assistant producer Tomoaki Ayano to learn more about the upcoming Switch game.

Ayano started out by discussing why this particular title was chosen for Switch. He explained that it’s Street Fighter’s 30th anniversary, so the thinking here was to provide an environment for longtime fans who have been supporting the series and want to play Street Fighter again as a way of saying thanks. Right at that time, Switch came into the picture. When thinking of a Street Fighter game that was on Nintendo consoles and very popular among the generation who are now parents, Street Fighter II came to mind.

Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania are both featured in this week’s Famitsu. It’s the former title that has received more coverage with additional details. 

Sonic Forces is a stage clearing-type action game in which Sonic runs around 3D areas. Progressing through fields, with not only Sonic’s own speed but also platforms like springs and dash panels, give a sense of exhilaration. Enemies that obstruct him can be destroyed by using attacks like Homing Attack and Boost effectively.

A little while back, Famitsu published an interview with Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi and Yoshiaki Koizumi all about Switch in one of its issues. It was extremely extensive, covering the system’s origins and early development (including some involvement from Satoru Iwata). The two developers also touched on numerous other topics such as going with a single screen, choosing the name out of thousands, tying in smartphone usage to online play and making it paid, system updates, VR, and why the January event was held in Japan. Again, there is a lot here.
