Palworld dev shares which patents Nintendo and Pokemon are suing over

Palworld developer Pocketpair today shared more details about the lawsuit Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have filed, including the specific patents that are involved.
Nintendo and The Pokemon Company say that Palworld infringes upon three patents. All of them pertain to gameplay, including throwing a ball-like object in a virtual space and riding on Pokemon.

September 18: Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair – the studio known for Palworld – together with The Pokemon Company.
Those that have been keeping up with Palworld since it burst onto the scene this year may not be overly surprised by the news. The lawsuit is seeking “injunction against infringement and compensation for damages”. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company believe that Palworld “infringes multiple patent rights.”

Takuro Mizobe, the head of Palworld developer Pocketpair, recently said that the studio hasn’t received any complains from Nintendo or The Pokemon Company, and also commented briefly on a potential Switch version.
Since its reveal, Palworld has drawn plenty of comparisons to Pokemon for its creature designs. While not specifically mentioning the game specifically, The Pokemon Company issued a statement (read it in full here) a few months ago stating that it would “investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights”. At least for now, it seems nothing came of that.
