The Super Mario Bros. Movie director reveals why blocks float in the Mushroom Kingdom
Have you ever wondered why there are floating blocks in the Mushroom Kingdom? This is just one of the questions the team behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie needed to think about while working on the project. Perhaps surprisingly, they even came up with an explanation.
Aaron Horvath, one of the directors on The Super Mario Bros. Movie, spoke about this in an interview with Variety. It turns out that the team came up with the term ‘floatanium’, which helps keep those blocks floating in the air. Adding more to the lore, it was decided that the mineral is natural to the Mushroom Kingdom.
As Horvath explained:
“Our idea was that there’s a mineral that’s natural to the Mushroom Kingdom, which we call ‘floatanium,’ because it sounded funny to us. The Toads mine it and transform it into these blocks and use them for construction purposes.”
There have naturally been a bunch of different interviews coming out relating to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. You might be curious to hear Chris Pratt talking about the voice of Mario, which is something we posted about yesterday and that’s available here.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie can be seen in theaters now.
