There’s more news about box office sales for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with reports coming in that the film is generating $204.6 million in the United States in its first five days. It beat out Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’s $200 million Wednesday-Sunday opening.

For Easter weekend openings, The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($146.36 million) is behind Batman vs. Superman ($181 million) and Furious 7 ($161 million). The film is on track to set a new global opening record for an animated movie at $377.2 million assuming overseas is still at $173 million by tomorrow morning.

Universal domestic distribution chief Jim Orr said of The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s success:

“The incredible partnership of Nintendo and Shigeru Miyamoto’s iconic characters, with Illumination and Chris Meledandri’s unbeatable filmmaking and storytelling prowess, has led to this combustible moment at the worldwide box office. Audiences of all ages and backgrounds have flocked to theatres to revel in this extraordinary big-screen celebration.”

Deadline further reports that thirty-eight percent of the movie’s weekend domestic box office stems from Imax, PLF, motion seats, and 3D screens. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is IMAX’s highest opening of all-time for an animated movie at $21.6 million, which includes the $16.6 million stateside record at 403 auditoriums.
