Zelda: Ocarina of Time World Video Game Hall of Fame

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is joining the World Video Game Hall of Fame at The Strong National Museum of Play, it’s been announced. Ms. Pac-Man, Dance Dance Revolution, and Sid Meier’s Civilization have also been selected.

The 2022 finalists for the World Video Game Hall of Fame were announced back in March. Assassin’s Creed, Candy Crush Saga, Minesweeper, NBA Jam, PaRappa the Rapper, Resident Evil, Rogue, and Words with Friends ultimately didn’t make the cut.

Andrew Borman, digital games curator, had this to say about Zelda: Ocarina of Time amid its entrance into the World Video Game Hall of Fame:

“Even today, developers throughout the world credit The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as influencing the way they create games. The game’s sprawling 3D world, fluid combat, complex puzzles, and time-shifting story combined to inspire a wonder in players that they have never forgotten.”

The World Video Game Hall of Fame has been operating since 2015. The original Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Pokemon, Super Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing were some of the previous selections. You can find all prior nominees and selections as part of our past coverage here.
